Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is a natural altered
state of awareness that all of us have experienced many times
before. An example of this is when we become so engrossed in
a book/film or listening to music etc., and having lost track of time,
or when you have been driving you cannot recall part of your journey,
for instance. These are just basic examples of what is an
altered state of awareness. The role of the Hypnotherapist is
to assist the client to go into this natural altered state of
awareness, and using the appropriate skills to bring about a positive
therapeutic change, aided by the client’s willingness,
imagination and co-operation to bring such changes into effect.
People are often surprised or
even disappointed at how natural they feel in hypnosis, and reactions
such as this arise because hypnosis is a natural mind state.
Some may still believe or even expect to be
“unconscious” “out” or
“not in control” or somehow unaware of what is
happening, or even made to do things or perform acts against their
will. Both therapist and client work together to allow the
client to be the best person they can possibly be.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is the application
of psychological principles to the treatment of those suffering from
disorders that are psychological in origin, or that are exacerbated by
psychological factors.
Counselling
Counselling is a process that
involves skills of caring, listening and prompting. It is a
way of relating to another person, enabling that person to explore
their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, in order to reach a clearer
self-understanding. That person is then helped to find and
use their strengths so that they can cope more effectively with their
life by making appropriate decisions or by taking relevant action.
The
use of hypnosis in therapy
Hypnosis is used in order to
quieten the conscious part of the mind. Once this has been
reached, direct access to the subconscious mind is available.
At this point, in most cases, you are still very much aware, and in
other cases MORE aware of what is being said. Unlike the
awareness of the conscious mind, we usually have little idea of the
thinking of the subconscious, which behaves in a way like that of a
computer, but relating to its function with an emotional
response. With the subconscious containing a perfect memory
of events and reactions we have experienced, it has a vast amount of
resources to draw upon to help us in our daily lives.
Sometimes, the subconscious may become faulty in its programming
through negative experiences, events, circumstances and
emotions. When this occurs it is sometimes difficult for us
to correct the programme ourselves, leaving us with a sense of there
being something inside us but outside our control. The
subconscious can be carefully updated, modified and improved with
excellent positive therapeutic benefit.
Hypnoanalysis
Hypnoanalysis is used for more
deep-seated emotional or psychological issues. Through
analysis discovery of the originating cause is identified then the
effect that was experienced due to the cause can be dealt with and
resolved permanently. Such causes that produce an effect,
ie., phobia, anxiety etc that produce bodily symptoms are mostly due to
an intense emotionally charged event in your life that was so shocking
or traumatic that it became hidden (repressed) from your conscious
mind. When this happens and you go about your daily life and
a trigger to that event happens, then the repressed emotions will cause
an affect albeit bodily symptom, phobia etc. Through hypnosis
and access to the subconscious, once that memory has been revealed,
through disassociation therapy, your reaction to it is more rational,
becomes more logical allowing the symptom to be dealt with and
permanently resolved.
Suggestion
therapy:
As its name suggests, the
therapist gives suggestions in order for the client to help themselves
change a particular behaviour or reaction. When you change
the thought, you change the behaviour and consequently change the
action. Suggestion therapy is useful for nail-biting, weight
control, hair pulling, exam nerves, stress reduction, confidence
boosting, enhancing creativity, improving athletic performance,
motivation etc.
Hypnohealing:
This powerful therapy is used to
treat many persistent conditions still defying conventional medicine
and has enormous potential for millions of people. It is a
wholly natural healing method, which speeds up, or triggers the
body’s own healing process. Only a general
indication of the possibilities can be illustrated here and no
guarantees are ever given, but the success rate is surprisingly
high. Some examples of successful outcomes are in the
treatment of IBS, muscular pain, injuries and allergies. The
client considering this therapy should exhaust all avenues of
conventional medicine first.
